Of course some companies hire animators due to their reputation, but since the average computer animator has not build a name for himself yet he would need to prove his or her skills with demo reel in order to get a computer animation job. A demo reel is short collection (on a CD or DVD or available for download) of some of the best work you have done, its like a commercial of yourself. A demo reel is especially important if that's you first computer animation job and you have no experience in this type of work.
